Acute Stroke Pathway in Cambridge University Hospitals

This presentation will cover the management of a patient presenting with acute stroke to Cambridge University Hospitals. This will include assessment of a suspected stroke in the community by paramedics, hyperacute assessment in the hospital, role of advanced imaging, delivery of intravenous thrombolysis and/or thrombectomy, observations and complications in the acute stage up to transfer to the rehabilitation unit, in accordance with the latest Royal College of Physicians National Clinical Guidelines. In addition, the role of a specialist nurse in the assessment and management of an acute stroke patient will be discussed.
