Mr Aman Coonar is a consultant thoracic surgeon and leads the thoracic surgery department at the Royal Papworth hospital part of Cambridge University Health Partners. His unit has one of the highest resection rates for lung cancer as well as one of the best one-year survival rates for patients who have had lung cancer surgery.
He has a major interest in risk reduction surgery and surgery for advanced disease. He is active in research and is running one of the largest studies in thoracic surgery with more than 15,000 subjects and is author of the bestselling book ‘Thoracic Surgical Techniques’ published in 2018.
He is past president and current council member of the Royal Society of Medicine Cardiothoracic Section and on the Education Committee of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery of GB & I. He has advised NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) on health technologies.
