Mr Aman Coonar is the senior consultant thoracic surgeon at the Royal Papworth hospital part of Cambridge University Health Partners. His unit has one of the highest resection rates for lung cancer as well as one of the best one-year survival rates for patients who have had lung cancer surgery.
He has a major interest in risk reduction surgery and surgery for advanced disease. He is active in research and is running one of the largest studies in thoracic surgery with more than 15,000 subjects and is the co-author of the bestselling book ‘Thoracic Surgical Techniques’.
He is past president and current council member of the Royal Society of Medicine Cardiothoracic Section and a Trustee for the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery of GB & I. He has advised NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) on health technologies.
