Mr. Chaitanyanand B. Koppiker is Medical Director, Orchids Breast Health Center (OBHC), Pune and one of the pioneers of Breast Oncoplasty in India.
Dr. Koppiker completed his MBBS and Mastery in Surgery degrees at the B.J. Medical College , Pune and onco-surgery fellowship at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. In 1994, Dr. Koppiker led the establishment of the first integrated multimodality cancer care centre at Inlaks and Budhrani Hospital, Pune. Thereafter, he served as the Founding Director of Cancer Units at Ruby Hall Clinic and Jehangir Hospital, Pune. In 2009, Dr. Koppiker has established OBHC which is the only stand-alone “Center for Affordable Excellence in Breast Health” in India with state-of-the-art facilites for breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Koppiker has received advanced training in Breast Oncoplasty from the leading global experts from Germany, UK, USA, Australia and Korea. One of the few breast oncoplastic surgeons in India, Dr. Koppiker has pioneered several novel breast biopsy and surgical techniques that combine principles of onco-surgery with aesthetics to improve outcomes
To train aspiring breast surgeons in this rapidly evolving standard-of-care surgery, Dr. Koppiker has established an “International School of Oncoplastic Surgery” in Pune. University of East Anglia, UK has appointed him as a visiting faculty for its UK-based Mastership Program in Oncoplastic Surgery and as a regional convener for the Asia-based M.Ch Program in Breast Oncoplasty. Dr. Koppiker is also a distinguished faculty of the School of Oncoplastic Surgery, USA and is regularly invited as a training mentor in several national and international workshops in Breast Oncoplasty.
Dr. Koppiker is the Founder and Managing Trustee of Prashanti Cancer Care Mission (PCCM)- a non-profit organization in Pune. PCCM is active in providing affording medical care, freeships, breast cancer awareness, community screening, patient rehabilitation and counseling to cancer patients in Pune and surroundings.
He is the Director of a “Centre for Translational Cancer Research” which is a joint initiative between PCCM and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune supported by Bajaj Auto. This Centre has undertaken major research initiatives with help from onco-clinicians and molecular scientists to investigate breast cancer problems in the Indian context.
For his contributions to fighting Breast Cancer in India, Dr. Koppiker has been widely felicitated with numerous recognitions and awards by his medical peers as well as by various social organizations.
