I, Dr. Pradipta Bhakta (MD, DNB, MNAMS, FCAI, EDRA), have graduated in medicine from Calcutta University, West Bengal, India in 1995. Then I did my post graduation in Anaesthesiology for University College of Medicine, West Bengal, India in 2001. After working about one year in West Bengal, I joined as senior Resident in anaesthesia in All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, the premier medical institute of India. After that (2006) I moved to Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Muscat, Oman and worked there for six years initially as registrar and then as senior registrar before coming to Ireland in 2012. In Ireland I worked in several hospitals in rotational training. Presently I am working as registrar Anaesthesia in University Hospital Limerick, Limerick, Ireland.
I did publish my first publication in Indian Journal of Anaesthesia in 2000. Now I have 55 national, international publications. I am also reviewer of British Journal of Anaesthesia, European Journal of Anaesthesia, Journal of Clinical Anaesthesia, Journal of Critical Care, Acta Anaesthesiologica Taiwanica. I am in editorial board of about 12 journals. I have done my first study in Kolkata, India on intranasal midazolam as premedication in paediatric patients, which is published in Indian Journal of Anaesthesia. I did my dissertation on efficacy of propofol-based anaesthesia in reduction of postoperative nausea and vomiting in laparoscopic surgeries, which is published in Acta Anaesthesia Taiwanica.
I am in anaesthesia since 1998. My areas of interest are regional anaesthesia; ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia, acute pain management, and intensive care. My aim is to pursue my career in chronic pain management. Along with my professional engagement I want to continue my zeal and interest in academics both in research and as a teacher.
